About Project Rebound
Project Rebound is a student success program for formerly incarcerated students in the California State University (CSU) s ystem. The first Project Rebound was c reated at SF State in 1967 by Dr. John Irwin, a formerly incarcerated professor. Project Rebounds now exists at 19 CSU campuses. We provide multiple supports for our students such as mentoring, advising, social support, academic support, and basic needs support for formerly incarcerated students. We can also offer some services to system involved students. Please fill out the interest form on our website if you would like to enroll in Project Rebound. Our Drop-In Center is in SSC 406. We welcome formerly incarcerated students, system involved students, and system impacted students in the drop in. Chico State Project Rebound uses terminology adapted from UC Berkeley Underground Scholars and San Francisco State Project Rebound . While those sentenced to a carceral institution can also be system involved and/or system impacted , Chico State Project Rebound's funding is based on organizing participants in one category. Formerly Incarcerated -includes those who have been sentenced and served time in a carceral institution (prison, immigration detention centers, local jails, juvenile detention centers, etc.) and are now released. System involved - includes those who have been involved in the carceral system but have not been sentenced to a carceral institution (for example, multiple juvenile and/or adult arrests, multiple 5150s, convictions with or without short jail stays and/or with or without court mandated supervision, etc.). System impacted –includes those who live in a household where one or more family member s or loved one s have been or are still incarcerated (parent, sibling, husband/wife, other relative , etc . ) . It can also refer to those who have family members or loved ones not from the same house hold but who they depend on or are otherwise closely attached to .
